My Dirty Kanza experience by Kevin Doggett PDF Print

On May 31, I drove into Kansas to prove up a route to Lawrence that Terry and I plan to ride in late June to the start of Border Raiders www.borderraiders.com/

On the way back from Lawrence, I decided to drive by Cottonwood Falls to see how the “Dirty Kanza” bike race http://www.kansascyclist.com/events/DirtyKanza.html was going.  Cottonwood Falls was not really on the way back to Bartlesville.  It is in Kansas though, so hopefully you see my logic!

Walt Bohn JUMPS to Celebrate 80th PDF Print
ImageImageBartlesville Pedaler, Walt Bohn, declined to participate in our Spring Fling bicycle ride.  His reason: he was doing his first ever sky dive to celebrate his 80th birthday.  When the Pedalers found out it was going to be in Skiatook and the spring fling route went through Skiatook, the time was adjusted to arrive in time to witness the event.  At about 11:30 in the morning, feerless Walt got on the plane and after climbing to 12000 feet performed an assisted jump. The event was witnessed by several Spring Fling Riders. Congratulations to Walt on his accomplishment. We are proud of you.

Saturday Spring Fling Group in Skiatook
ImageAfter a cool night and a nice windy/cool ride the spring fling group gathers together at the WalMart Parking lot in Skiatook. During the day the group rode from the camp site at Birch Lake through Woolco, Ramona (down Bill's hill), Vera, Skiatook, Avant and back to Birch Lake. The distance was about 62 miles.  Several of the riders stopped off to see pedaler, Walt, participate in an assisted sky dive to celebrate his 80th birhday. A good time was had by all. Moni was the only one to demonstrate flat tire repair.  She accomplished the task in about 10 minutes, allowing Uncle Norm and Dale to have an extra rest about 3 miles from camp.
