Bartlesville Pedalers meeting

January 20, 2014

Freeman residence

Alan Freeman called the meeting to order at 19:15.

The nomination of Dan Reinking as Secretary was voted on and approved.

Shirley Martin, Treasurer

Our current bank balance is $1,656.69. We have received $400 in dues and we have a similar amount recently paid out or pending due for routine club expenses including insurance, website hosting, League membership, Post Office box rental, etc. Our club expenses and charitable donations have been exceeding our club income in recent years and this trend is not sustainable. Discussions of solutions included reducing charitable donations or increasing dues or membership size. No action was taken.

Ginger McCullough, Road Director

Ginger reports that “The roads are good!”

There was discussion of nearby summer tours, including the Freewheel route going from Comanche, OK to Caldwell, KS this year, and the BAK route will be announced on the 28th.

Keith Clark suggested having Saturday rides start in outlying small towns once every 4-6 weeks this spring and summer, and advertising those rides with bike shops in Tulsa to possibly recruit some new riders to join us. For example, start a Saturday ride in Vera and have two or three loop routes of differing lengths available for participants. Maps would be available on our website. We would not support these rides in any way beyond extending an invitation to join us (and hopefully join our club as well) and preparing route maps. There was support for this idea.

Spring Fling is scheduled for Copan Lake on May 2, 3, and 4. This will serve as one of our invitation rides to a wider audience. There is a new tent camping area at Copan Lake that we can use.

There is a possibility of holding a fall weekend for club members at Pawhuska with daily rides going out from there, and staying at a newly renovated lodging site on Kiheka.

There is also a possible self-supported bike tour around the borders of Osage County (about 330 miles) being planned by club members for this fall. It would involve some gravel riding.

Other business

Phillips 66 will be holding a Health Fair on February 26 from 11-1. The Pedalers will have a table there with 2-3 volunteers to promote cycling and our club. Our table must be set up by 10:30. Kevin and Sean will be contacted to see if they have a club brochure we can use or reprint.

Dale Munn reports that the club currently has 93,778 cycling miles reported by our members for 2013. Please send him your 2013 riding total if you have not done so already.

Meeting adjourned 20:15.
