The membership meeting began at ~6:45pm as most were finishing the pizza and watermelon at that time.  

1.     Introductions were made: There were 15-20 members present.

2.     Kevin gave the treasury report with ~$2300 in the Pedaler’s account. 

3.     Alan provided the road bike report:

a.     Hotter ‘n Hell            Aug 28

b.     Dam Jam     Sept 11

c.     1 Hill of a ride          Sept 4, 18 or 25?  Dan asked for input concerning which hills to climb and suggested dates.  Interest expressed but no input obtained. 

d.     Kevin brought up possibly riding through Tall Grass Prairie on Sept 25.  Want to avoid rutting and calving seasons and need vehicle to safe guard riders

4.     Dale gave web update.  Agreed that it would be good to make it accurate, e.g. it still advertises a 2pm Sunday ride.

5.     Old business:

a.     Firecracker recap: Mike and Alan gave a FireCracker century re-cap from July 3.  15 started off, met up with Jim Black in Ochelata; Jack, Dale, Shirley, Sean returned home from Vera.  Others met at Mohawk Park where Barbara and Karolena prepared a great spread/rest-stop.  It rained on some before Mohawk and rained on everyone the entire way back, sometimes very heavy.  Barbara and Karolena also setup by Oglesby for another break.  Those completing a century included Eric Morrison, Jim Black, Dan Schultes, Paul Richardson, Joel Martin, Donna Hess, Mike Mahoney, Rod Harwood, Alan Freeman, Marsha Greenland and Donna's friends Ronnie and Nannette.

6.     New business: Dog ~4 miles east of Oglesby:

a.     2 separate recent incidents (Terry and Mike) where dog cut them off and caused them to get off bike and shield themselves from dog with bike to defend themselves aggressive attacks.  Others who have been strongly harassed by dog but fortunately got by dog without dismounting include Joel, Jack, Kevin & Dan. 

b.    Mike:

                                  i.    Determined owner of dog

                                 ii.    Contacted Rick Esser, also the DA for Nowata County, who will speak to the Nowata sheriff about the situation

                                iii.    Contacted Nowata sheriff

                                iv.    Created a letter to send to owner, coping Nowata sheriff and DA. 

c.     Motion made, seconded and approved to send letter to dog owner

d.    15 Pedalers signed the letter

7.     Safety: Kevin shared a humorous recent event advising us to listen to locals’ advice when they might have said “a million mile per hour wind is approaching” to prevent having to dodge trees falling down in a forest. 

8.     Next meeting is August 16, location is Dink’s.  Dan made reservations on July 20th.
