Bartlesville Pedalers meeting

Alan Freeman called the post-potluck meeting to order at 7:28.
Mark Beckwith introduced his daughter Megan and the association he helped establish to assist families affected by a rare birth defect known as a congenital melanocytic nevus. Last year his organization participated in Freewheel as a fundraiser for his organization, and he has a team participating in Freewheel again this year. To learn more or to make a pledge for his Freewheel team, visit nevus.org.
Shirley Martin reports our bank balance as $1729 and our current membership is 46. We need to check on the status of our club insurance as there is some confusion about when premiums are due and whether we actually receive a bill or not.
Joel Martin made a motion that “the Road Bike Director be allotted up to $75 each year to cover the cost of mapping software or website membership and printing expenses. Payment of these costs will be subject to presentation of receipts to the treasurer. Any maps produced will be made available to the members as permitted under software and website licenses”
The purpose of this would be to encourage the Road Bike Director to produce useful maps for ride routes and make them available to members. The motion was seconded by Mark Beckwith and was passed by a vote.
Discussion of the Firecracker Century resulted in plans to hold it on Saturday, July 5th, with the route going to a park in Sperry for a picnic lunch to be organized by Rhonda and paid for by a charge of $5 to ride participants.
Tour de Cure is this weekend, and Tulsa Tough is the following weekend. Freewheel and Bike Across Kansas are also coming up soon.
Rod will send out an email to gauge interest in holding an overnight “credit card ride” to Independence this summer. This is something the club used to do regularly, but has not organized in some time.
The Boys and Girls Club ride is scheduled for September 13. The next club meeting will include discussion about how we will be helping with it this year, and that meeting will also include a “watermelon feast” at the home of Joel and Shirley Martin on June 16 at 6:30.
Alan suggested that someone offer a cycling safety tip of the day at the start of each club ride, which was met with agreement.
Saturday rides in June, July and August will begin at 7:30 at Johnstone Park. The Road Bike Director can alter the start time for a Saturday ride if needed by notifying members. After Freewheel, the Tuesday and Thursday evening rides will be less formal in that there will not be a scheduled ride leader, and participants can come up with a route as a group immediately before departure.
Meeting adjourned at 8:20.
